The year was 1984, and the location was London, England.  The Clash was performing, and Joe Strummer was making one of his sarcastic statements through his t-shirt.  The artist’s “Out Of Control” bold tee made quite a splash, and now you can get his look.

In the late 1970s, the popularity of British punk rock was rising. The Clash rode the wave to success after being formed in London in 1976. Consisting of Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Nicky “Topper” Headon, the group achieved commercial success in the United Kingdom with the release of their self-titled debut album, The Clash, in 1977. It was not until their third album, London Calling, was released in the UK in 1979 that they earned popularity in the United States.

The Guns of Brixton, featured on this t-shirt, was written and sung by bassist Paul Simonon who grew up in Brixton, South London. The song has a strong reggae influence, reflecting the culture of the area and the reggae gangster film The Harder They Come. During the recording of the song, Simonon sang while staring directly at a CBS executive who had visited the studio during the sessions, giving Simonon the desired amount of emotion in his voice.

This tank top features a regular fit, double-needle stitching neck and armholes, with a double-needle bottom hem. Solid colors are made from 100% jersey, while Athletic Heather is made from 90% cotton and 10 % polyester blend. Care Instructions: Machine wash, do not bleach or wring.
